Baby Steps: Still Painting...

Last night Joe painted the first coat of Springtime Bloom...

...on the bottom half of the nursery walls. Yay!

Again, can't help but gush about my cutie hubbs... Monday night I hawked his hair for Camp Olympics and Tuesday morning he offered an obscene amount of "olympics points" to any counselor who jumped up on stage during town hall and hawked their heads! Eek! I thought (maybe) he'd get 2 or 3 people, but when I spoke with him at noon he had already hawked about TEN heads... including one of the girl counselors! Rock On Mountainside! ;)

Also, before I get back to the painting, I'd like to note that he was so anxious to start painting that he forgot to change... and realized after the photo above that he was wearing his beloved WB DIRECTOR shirt (which he wears at least once a week!... Thanks ABC!)! Needless to say, I quickly ran and got him a shirt he didn't mind getting pink on!

Back to painting... As my main job was to supply nourishment for the laborer (Read: Coldstone Mint Mint Chocolate Chocolate Chip), I wasn't supervising the whole time. I did, however; manage to walk into the paint can and pinkify my only decent pair of maternity pants! Ack!

No worries though, I got most of it out since I realized my faux pas right away. The bottom line is that we're making progress on Baby Girl's room!

Bye Bye DC

Okay, so I've been holding on to the last shred of Newlywedness for the last two years... my DC drivers license! As soon as we got back from our honeymoon... all sparkly and tan... I ran to the DMV to get a new photo and officially change my name! Despite the comments about my massive amount of hair, etc, I just love the photo... I love that I had gotten it right after we were married... I love that it meant I lived in the nation's capital, and I've come to love that it says I'm only 120 lbs (it was true then, not so much now!)!!

This whole scenario is extra sad b/c we've not lived in DC since May 2006... and it's now end of February 2008... we own our own little house with a fenced-in backyard and a puppy running around it... and have no reason to still be listed as DC residents... but I've been holding out... not wanting to trade in my newly married and 120lb persona!

Well, I gave it up this morning... at the MD Motor Vehicle Administration... for a sucky photo on a rainy day... but I guess it all just goes with moving on with life... I wouldn't give mine up for anything! :)

The Perfect Game

Luckily, we didn't have too much to get done this weekend (or we didn't feel like doing it!) so it was very nice to sleep in and just unwind after stressful weeks at work! Saturday afternoon we headed down to the Eastern Shore to go to an Engagement Party for Brandy and Eric (given by his parents). It was nice to meet his whole family and have an informal kickoff to the wedding festivities. Saturday night, Joe and I just vegged... got KFC (which I later regretted)... I read my book and Joe played Halo. By the end of the night, I was sitting on the couch laughing hysterically at a game replay of Joe's where he just got killed at every turn. We had it on fast forward, so it was especially hilarious to see his guy flying across the screen and dying. I'm sure there's a psychoanalysis key to something here, but it was just kinda fun to get out some anger and frustration on the xbox!Sunday was a different story... we slept in... watched the Wire... and cuddled up on the couch for the afternoon!! Sirius was being extra cuddlicious and we totally passed out together! Joe, of course, got online to play some Halo. Now, I rarely have a lot of appreciation for my hubby's gamer ways, but yesterday I think I grasped the gravity of his feat... a perfect game! Lots of kills and no dying! This is the 1st time its happened to Joe, and as I understand it doesn't happen often! :) Yay Hubby!

I spent the rest of the night watching the Oscars... kind of a yawn b/c I didn't see most of the big movies. A big yay for Juno... I really loved that movie! I was a big fat retard before the Oscars... I didn't see the steam coming out of the steamer head, so I grabbed it to see if it was on... and now my left hand is totally singed (and therefore useless!)! The silver lining is definitely the fact that compared to my hand, my injection didn't hurt too much!! I'm giving myself a big pat on the back for taking 4 shots in a row (weekly, of course... but I haven't skipped a week) and am feeling okay!

This week's going to be a little slow on the workfront, but it's all good in the hood! ;)

P.S.

Just realized that my last post concerning my arthritis was a bit doom-and-gloom... glad to report that while I hate taking the injections and meds, they're working! :) It's amazing how fast these medicines work and the difference they make! That, and Dad basically told me to "buck up" about the needles and of course rationalized how easy it is (a la Epipen and you don't see the needs)... so I think that little chat may help me take this week's dose on time (instead of hoping that Joe forgets and postponing it for a few days)!

Not all the way better, but the stiffness is going away! :) Yay Enbrel!

Lost Cell Phone

Can't find my phone... hopefully it will reappear so I can call people back! Until then, call Joe if you need me!

A Christmas Story

After a WONDERFUL holiday with friends and family, Joe and I took the puppy to the vet for the good old "Snipperooni"!! He went into the vet with tail wagging and kisses for all of the nurses! He was so proud to weigh in at a whopping 23.8 pounds!

The vet called me at about 2pm to let me know that everything went well! They successfully took his manhood, along with a dewclaw, and he would be ready to come home this evening. Then, she went on to tell me that he still has a baby tooth (a true Mcfatridge... losing teeth late!), that another tooth had cracked (no more ice cubes or rawhides!), and that he has to take it easy.

She's trying not to giggle as she tells me all of this and then comes the kicker... she proceeded to tell me that sometimes the anesthesia makes puppies sick and they often throw up a little bit... but usually its not much of a worry. Except in our case... when the put our pup on the operating table, he started to yak... and yak... and yak. After any food that was in him came out, he yaked a little more... and out came a pair of panties! A Red Thong. Whole.

Yep; the damn dog swallowed my only sexy unders... which are not so secret anymore!

She cautioned me that usually they have to do a whole surgery to get "foreign objects" out of puppies bellies, so really, he saved me some cash!

At 5pm, thoroughly mortified, we picked up our little patient... who looks like he's been through the ringer....

Moral of the story: Make sure you thoroughly clean when preparing for family to visit... don't just throw everything on the floor into a closet... and don't assume that the dog won't escape from the kitchen when you leave him all afternoon!

Merry Christmas!!

SNOW!

Sirius and I were so excited to see snowflakes drifting down from the sky at 5am (Joe was watching the inside of his eyelids at the time)... and after work we all went out to play! I love snow... and clearly Sirius does too!!

A post from a while ago...

In honor of Kate's gradutation from Nursing School (woo hoo!), I bring you Life Lesson #673: When in doubt, call the doctor!

Three weeks ago I kicked over the candy dish Lana gave me (by accident, obviously) while carrying something to the couch. If you didn't have the honor of seeing it, Joe called it the Dr. Seuss dish as it was purple glass with fluid arms holding up the dish. As I put my foot down, I stepped on a piece of glass... we pulled it right out, elevated (Yes, we remember RICE...) and bandaged it up!

Three weeks later, I still couldn't walk on it and it wasn't healing properly, so I called the doctor. She immediately referred me to a podaitrist and he saw me (and my toe) this morning. After feeling around, he realized that there was something in it (I had felt around and couldn't tell). I'll spare you the gushy details, but after a few shots of novaicaine, he pulled out this piece of glass that was going into my toe...

(See attached photo. WARNING: It's gross!)

Hence, I give you today's life lesson... when in doubt, call a doctor!
